Curriculum

As an Early Years provider, playgroup follows the Department for Education's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Updated in September 2014, the EYFS framework comprises seven areas of learning and development:

Each week, our staff carefully plan a variety of activities for the children, both indoors and outside, to ensure that we provide an interesting and varied programme that meets the requirements of the EYFS.

If you would like to learn more about the EYFS, please follow the link on the 'Links' page. Alternatively, our Team Manager or your child's Key Person would be happy to discuss the curriculum with you in more detail.

Language Lead
Sara Last is playgroup's 'Language Lead'. This important role involves providing a supportive and stimulating environment for the children to encourage their early language development. Examples of the types of activities Sara leads include teaching the children a Makaton sign and symbol every week, learning the signs to popular nursery rhymes and spending time reading with the children in the 'Cosy Corner', a language-focused area at playgroup.

If you would like to learn more, have a look around the main room where Sara has put up all the signs and symbols that are used in the children's daily routine. Sara has also made a great communication and language display containing lots of useful information for parents and carers to encourage language development at home.
