Parent and Carer Information

East Leake playgroup accepts children aged 2-5 years old. We take a maximum of 19 children per session. We do not expect our younger children to be toilet-trained and are happy to accept children still in nappies.

Joining and Settling In
Before your child's first session at playgroup, we will ask you to complete our registration process. This allows us to prepare for your child's first session and involves completing a number of forms as well as discussing any particular needs your child may have. We want your child to be happy and to enjoy their time at playgroup, but we recognise that starting at a new setting can be unsettling. We therefore encourage you to stay with your child until you feel that they are happy and settled in their new environment.

Key Person
Each member of staff has a small group of children whom they observe and whose progress they assess. When your child starts with us, they will be assigned a Key Person. Your child's Key Person is usually your first port of call if you have any queries or concerns about your child. They will also be responsible for maintaining your child's Learning Journal. The Key Person will observe your child and will record their progress in their Learning Journal. If you would like to discuss any matter relating to your child's progress or to review their Learning Journal, your child's Key Person would be happy to meet with you at a convenient time.

Playgroup has an optional uniform, which comprises a red T-Shirt and sweatshirt and includes the playgroup logo. They are available to buy at playgroup and cost £4 and £8 respectively (£11 for both). Alternatively, children should come to playgroup in suitable clothing both for the season and that they can manage independently e.g. for going to the toilet. Please be aware that playgroup offers a range of messy activities (e.g. painting and sticking) and although aprons are provided, these do not always keep clothes clean.
We ask that your child brings a spare set of clothes with them to playgroup as accidents can happen. Also, please ensure that all your child's clothing is named to prevent items ending up in our lost property box.

Snacks and Packed Lunches
Playgroup promotes healthy eating and considers both snack time and lunchtime important times of the day where the children can sit and talk together. During the morning and afternoon sessions, a nutritious snack and a choice of milk or water are provided for the children. For those children attending Lunch Club, we ask that parents/carers work in partnership with playgroup to promote healthy eating by preparing a healthy packed lunch for their child.

Please inform us if your child has any special dietary requirements or allergies and we will ensure that these are respected. The snack menu can be found below.

Free Milk Scheme

Thanks to government subsidies, all under-fives are entitled to a free 189ml serving of fresh, semi-skimmed milk every day. Your child will automatically be registered to receive free milk when they start at playgroup.

If you would like to learn more about the scheme, please follow the 'Cool Milk' link on the Links page.

Partnership with Parents
Playgroup keeps in touch with parents in a number of ways. In addition to our website, the notice board in the foyer has a wealth of information and our half-termly newsletter details recent events, forthcoming plans and updates on our fundraising activity. Also, twice a year, playgroup opens its doors for parents' evening and in May each year, parents are welcomed at our open day.
